GO
FOR GOLD TEAM NIGERIA!
SEVERAL WRONGS CAN MAKE A RIGHT!
Do
not say never! Instead, all you need to do is get your mind primed with positivity,
ignite a torch of hope and await with enough faith and patience, a possible
impossibility!
Just
last night while surfing the web, I saw a thread about Nigerian sport minister
whom, I believe, mistakenly, uttered United States of Nigeria instead of the
right one. Apparently, there is no big deal in making mistakes; it becomes a
big deal when Nigerians cash in on it to crack a joke in the process of making
a news out of it. However, it was wrong and uncalled for. It is indeed funny as
well!
This
morning, while watching the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, Rio 2016, we
patiently awaited Nigeria to be called upon, only to see the delegates dressed
in tracksuits. Who did not know they were there for sports? We were actually
looking forward to seeing some ‘Aso-Okes’ of South Western attires, ‘Kaftan’
from the North, the big beads of the East and other symbolic and fascinating sights.
It was a wrong choice again if you asked me; it was just below expectation but
still, not bad.
I
did not know there was one more to come until when I saw Nigerian soccer
players as well as the Japanese line up in readiness for a match. My little
nephew was already clamoring, asking me to change it to a cartoon channel. Out of
patriotism, I calmed him down and assured him that Nigeria anthem would be
played and we were going to sing it together any moment from then. I was already
muttering “Arise O Compatriots…” before I found out that an unknown anthem was
being played instead. I stood affixed, staring incredulously at the TV screen.
I tried to read the lips of the players to confirm if there was another anthem
aside from the one popularly sung, unreadable were their lips! The next thing I
noticed was that Mikel Obi shook his head. Not again! A wrong anthem? That, I confirmed
moments afterwards!
It
all seems dramatic and unfavorable perhaps. However, we can still manage all
those wrongs for they are mere distractions that must not be allowed to hold
sway.
We
can do with a wrong costume, what we don’t want to see is a wrong conduct by
the delegates!
The
wrong anthem is so undeserving. You may even call it ‘belittling’! Nevertheless,
mistakes, though are not so good, are allowed. Team Nigeria! What we don’t want is a wrong medal!
Every
other medal, have it at the back of your mind, is wrong except a Gold; go for
Gold!
Don't break our hearts! Don’t come back home
empty handed; go for Gold!
Even
if you are going to bring few silvers and bronzes, let the spirit seen in you, the
charisma you display and the poise you exude in all games yearn for Gold!
Let
the wrongs rot not your skills; let us see you take the lead!
Go
for Gold, Team Green White Green!
Go
for Gold, Team Nigeria!
